This blog has mostly turned into sporadic (at best) updates on my kids and little life updates in between. I wish I had more time to sit down and blog about specific topics or deeper stuff...like what Jesus is doing in our lives. But I don't right now. I mean, I could if I wanted to sacrifice time with my children or husband and sacrifice other things like the cleanliness of my house or making all my meals from scratch. It's not that I don't like blogging anymore, and I still read all your blogs from my phone (commenting on an iPhone is pretty much impossible, so I'm sorry for the lack of comments). I just don't want to sacrifice living life with my kids for technology. I'm trying to be off my phone for the most part unless they are sleeping, and be in the moment a lot more! And it's wonderful. The funny thing about having an iPhone with all these "handy" apps...the less I check it, the less I feel the need to check it. The more I check it, the more I feel like I'm missing out on something if I'm not checking it constantly. Funny how that works, huh?
Anyway...all that to say, I'll keep the blog going for the time being. I'm just not going to make any promises about the frequency of my posts right now.
So here's what we've been up to:
It's been an amazing week here in Washington. If you're from the Pacific Northwest, you know what I'm talking about. It hasn't rained in days. It was around 80 degrees all weekend, and the trend is supposed to continue until Sunday (sadly, it's supposed to rain for Mother's Day...boo!). But we're soaking it up and enjoying it while we can! We've all been taking turns being sick...first the stomach flu for me and Eden, then Corey got it, then Charlotte got a cold, then I got the cold, and then Eden got the cold...Eden was fine for a whole day, and is now worse than she was when she first got the cold, so we're heading to the doc this afternoon. I suspect it's turning into a sinus or ear infection and want to catch it before it gets bad. All in all, at least one of us has been sick for the past 5 weeks straight. Ahh!
This past Saturday Corey and I had our very first all-day date in.......a very long time. We've done date nights since we had Eden, but never an all-day thing. She's spent the night away from us, but only because Corey had his wisdom teeth out and then one night because I had Charlotte. So we've never been without children for an extended period of time just so we can have fun. Sad, right? It was so much fun! It was gorgeous out. We had a gift card to the SkyCity Restaurant (the restaurant on top of the Seattle Space Needle), so we had brunch up there, and then hung out in Seattle the rest of the day. We got dinner down by our house and walked along the waterfront (I still can't believe we live 5 minutes from Puget Sound) until 9pm. We were kidless for 11 hours, and it was amazing! We definitely need to do that more often. We really needed that time. Granted, I missed them and we even brought a little something home for each of them, but it was so nice to be able to have uninterrupted conversation, have our meals to ourselves, and be out doing stuff as a couple without having to change diapers or nurse and get snacks or worry about cranky kids who needed naps. No strollers, no car seats, no pacifiers, no wiping snotty noses or sticky hands. For a whole day. So awesome! Not that I would give any of those things up permanently. But for a day here and there...yes please!
We're in the process of getting rid of the pacifiers in our house. We took Charlotte's away first because we felt like we couldn't fairly take Eden's when Charlotte still had one. It wasn't very difficult...she wasn't super attached to it anyway. It was more for us than for her! It takes her a little more fussing to fall asleep right now and getting her back to sleep without nursing is kind of difficult/impossible, but we're making progress. Eden is next. I'm letting her have it only for sleeping. When she asks for it, I tell her she has to go lay in her bed if she wants it...and she'll usually move on to something else because she doesn't want to sleep. The only reason she still has it right now is because she's getting her last two teeth (those top canines), and they are a BEAST. Poor girl. She's been gnawing on anything she can get her hands on (or her hands/fingers if there's nothing available) and doesn't want to eat much because they hurt. So ready to be done with teething! I'm sure she is too. I think it'll be another couple weeks or so...she's been working on them for a few weeks already. Hopefully soon! Charlotte will be starting soon...but at least they won't be teething at the same time.
We are starting the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and love it. So awesome. The end.
I'm almost done with my elimination diet. So far, I'm allergic to dairy, possibly lemons (I need to "test" them again to be sure), and...chocolate. Yes, chocolate. How horrible is THAT?! And I might have a sensitivity to caffeine. Caffeinated coffee and tea seems to make me a little crazy/jittery. Decaf is fine though. I'm all clear on eggs, wheat, soy, and grapefruit. Still need to test peppers and potatoes and limes and oranges. I can live without dairy. Especially after how it's been making me feel. But no more chocolate?! I'm still coming to grips with that. I'm a chocolate-holic. So it's basically the worst thing that could have happened to me. I'm finding that in very small amounts it doesn't affect me too much...so I might be able to allow myself a little bit here and there...but in massive amounts on a regular basis? Nope. UGH. And carob? The stuff that's supposed to be a chocolate substitute? It is GROSS.
There's more I could say, but my children both just woke up from their naps at the same time, so it's back to mommyhood for me! I'll try to do a part 2 later! Please forgive any typos as I don't have time to proofread like I normally would!
